Collection of my DIY projects, travel stories, and other interesting/boring stuff.

Plexiglas

Today I tried to deal with a new material - plexiglas.

The project was to build two stands for ZTE V9 android pads. The design was simple and straight forward - fold twice to allow a pad sit on.

Replace GPU

I got a faulty HP dv2700 laptop with an apparent symtop of faulty gpu - 1 long and 2 short beeps and black screen.

Many hp laptops in that era were affected by the faulty nvidia chips and inappropriate heatsink design. Can't believe hp an nvidia still sruvived after dumping so many their customers. Personally I won't never purchase any hp computer or nvidia display adapters.

My dev corner

Finally, I have a dedicated corner for all my hobby developments, and with a view to courtyard:0

The corner ensembles a curved bench, a shelf on the bench, a trolley to place my scope, my digital psu, hot-air smd rework station, soldering irons, vice, helper hands with magnifier, and assorts of tools, boxes, and components. Techincally speaking, I didn't spend 1 cent on constructing this thing - the bench and shelf were created from some materials laying around my garage. a good way to get rid of stuffs and get organised.

laptop repair

after the renovation of creating a dev corner for myself, I needed a computer for mostly hardware-related dev work. concerned about the space needed by a desktop, I decided to get a laptop. None available, however. therefore I picked up a suspended repair project - the dell d800.

Plasma TV repair

I got a philips 42" plasma tv recently for $10. a good toy I reckon. it is an old model made in 2003, has got a sd panel from samsung (V2).

The symtom was it could not be switched on. after press the on button in remote control, the power led went to green and then back to flashing red.

android kernel x86

The support for touch screen was a quick hack to usbtouchscreen.c. now I'm learning the right way to handle kernel drivers, not only compiled in, also as KMS. The goal is to create a kernel image and kernel modules to support most pc and the touchscreens I have.

On T91, wireless has not been correctly supported yet.

Android Kitchen PC

I have been working on a kitchen pc project for a quite long time, starting probably from one year ago, when I moved to the new house.

The idea was to create a large touch screen pc without keyboard/mouse. The planned features include accessing to-do list, shopping list, news, recipes, weather, web surfing, ip phone, maps, email, inventory management, dictionary, etc.

EMF

EMF is probably a more serious issue for the concerns of human health. Here I collected some useful information about this topic.

An inefficient weekend, just like usual

Well, another weekend passed, and a lot of commitment didn't come true. The things did finish include re-organising my toobox, and getting boot mat trimmed for my new car.

The solution for my toolbox was - hmm, get a new toolbox, I mean a big one. K-mart bondi juction got one for sale for $60, which replaced all my previous toolboxes from here and there. Finally I was able to put things for similar purposes in the same area, which I felt much more comfortable.
